The District takes step toward building public infrastructure at the site

Developers of The District, the $600 million mixed-use development on the Downtown Jacksonville Southbank, now has the money to begin work on public infrastructure at the site.

The five-member board for the project’s Community Development District voted Monday to approve a special debt assessment of $44.5 million on the development’s property owners. The action allows the board to bond for $31.3 million to begin the infrastructure work.

Rayonier AM joins Fortune 1000 list of America's largest companies

The usual suspects from Jacksonville made this year's Fortune 500 list of America's largest companies, but one new contender edged its way into the Fortune 1000 list.

CSX Corp., Fidelity National Information Services Inc. and Fidelity National Financial Inc. once again made the Fortune 500 and Landstar System Inc. continued in the Fortune 1000.

Historic Sweet Pete’s building in Downtown Jacksonville is for sale

Downtown’s historic Sweet Pete’s building at 400 N. Hogan St. is for sale.

While the MLG restaurant inside recently closed, the candy business remains open.

The three-story structure is designed as a candy-store wonderland and is anchored by the Jacksonville-based Sweet Pete’s candy company.

Jacksonville City Council election: Incumbents Hazouri, Pittman reelected; Freeman defeats King

Jacksonville voters reelected Democrats Tommy Hazouri and Ju’Coby Pittman in Tuesday’s City Council runoff election, while Republican Terrance Freeman will move from District 10 to At-Large Group 1 after defeating Duval County Democratic Party Chair Lisa King.

Hazouri, a former Jacksonville mayor and school board member, retained his At-Large Group 3 seat with 58.05% of the vote. He defeated Republican Greg Rachal, according to unofficial results released by Duval County Supervisor of Elections Mike Hogan.

Work continues toward development of a GreenWise Market natural foods grocer at World Commerce Center in St. Johns County.

GreenWise is Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets Inc.’s concept developed to compete in the natural foods category. It offers organic, specialty and traditional grocery items.
