As energy sales decline, JEA considers path for future including layoffs, charter changes

JEA says it is facing large-scale staffing cuts and rate increases over the next decade because of declining revenue from shrinking energy and water sales.

The public utility’s board of directors voted unanimously Tuesday to order staff to develop an implementation plan over the next 90 days that includes the layoff of 30% of JEA’s workforce and a reduction in long-term capital investment.

Mayo Clinic to build $233 million proton beam therapy facility

Mayo Clinic announced Monday it would construct a 140,000-square-foot, $233 million integrated oncology facility that will include proton beam therapy at its Jacksonville campus. 

Building design for the project will begin later this year, with construction to be completed by late 2022. The goal is by the end of 2023, the facility will be ready for patients.

Panera, Chipotle and Bento set for Riverside in summer 2020

The Ferber Co. expects to buy a Brooklyn site this summer and start construction on a building for lease to Panera Bread, Chipotle and Bento Asian Kitchen + Sushi.

Ponte Vedra Beach-based Ferber announced Monday that construction would start immediately after the land purchase and be completed for tenant openings by summer 2020.

Johnson Commons offers competing plan for townhomes in LaVilla

Downtown workforce housing developer Vestcor Companies has competition for the purchase and development rights of eight city-owned parcels in LaVilla.

Johnson Commons LLC submitted a letter of intent Monday to the Downtown Investment Authority to purchase the property on West Adams, Johnson, Lee and West Forsyth streets for $100,000 and build a mixed-use development.
