Deutsche Bank: It's too early to comment on how job cuts will impact Jacksonville

Deutsche Bank employees worldwide and the estimated 2,100 in Jacksonville wondered Monday how the Germany-based company’s restructuring and plans to cut 18,000 jobs — roughly one out of five — would affect them.

Jacksonville’s workforce is expected to be cut because Deutsche Bank will leave the equity sales and trading business, which employs staff in the Southside operations centers.

A year after its creation, the Rail Yard District Business Council increased its membership to 62 businesses and plans to continue neighborhood improvements in the coming year.

The council’s mission is to advance economic development of the 4½-square-mile historic residential and commercial area northwest of Downtown bounded by interstates 95 and 10, Kings Road and Huron Street.

Mayor expect deal with Shad Khan on Lot J development by end of summer.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry expects negotiators for the city and Iguana Investments Florida LLC to reach a development deal for the $500 million Lot J project near TIAA Bank Field by the end of the summer.

The mayor offered the timeline after his inaugural address Monday morning at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts, stating that’s when he’ll “have a deal that we can share and that City Council will evaluate and vote on.”

For Mandarin area residents, a craft beer option closer to home could be open by mid-September. 

If the zoning request is approved July 18 by the Jacksonville Planning Commission, owner Joe Byrns will open Jax Craft Beer, a draft and bottle shop.
