Farmers market, architecture school proposed for old Armory

The former Florida National Guard armory Downtown could become a mixed-use farmers market, greenhouse and event space -or an architecture school.

Property bidder B&H Fine Foods co-owner Barry Adkin said he proposes to turn the property into a farmers market, greenhouse/urban farm, incubator kitchens for local companies and space for performances or events.

Town & Country Shopping Center in Arlington sold

Arlington’s first retail plaza sold Thursday to JWB Real Estate Companies LLC, which paid almost $5.08 million for the Town & Country Shopping Center at northeast University Boulevard and Arlington Expressway.

Jacksonville-based JWB, led by Alex Sifakis, focuses on urban redevelopment and infill housing.

Updated: Florida Power & Light CEO says utility is looking at bidding to buy JEA

Florida Power & Light Co. President and CEO Eric Silagy said Friday the company is looking at bidding to buy JEA.

“We’re of course interested and continue to work with JEA, looking at what the opportunity is. JEA is a great organization,” Silagy told reporters after a more than 50-minute FPL informational presentation to the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Council.

Bids opened for historic National Guard armory

B & H Fine Foods, a grocery store company from Boca Raton, was among three companies submitting bids for the former Florida National Guard armory on the northeastern edge of Downtown.

The names of the bidders were read at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ed Ball Building. The bid amounts were not read and can remain secret for up to 30 days, or when a bid is selected.
