Amazon wants to turn old Kmart into delivery center

Amazon.com, already with four major centers in Jacksonville, plans to develop a fifth at a closed Kmart along Blanding Boulevard in Westside.

The 107,000-square-foot discount department store at 4645 Blanding Blvd.  closed almost seven years ago.

The city is reviewing plans to rezone the property for use as an e-commerce distribution, fulfillment and delivery center.

Winn-Dixie seeks $850,000 in city incentives to fill Publix space at Gateway

Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. requested $850,000 in city financial incentives to open a store at Gateway Town Center in the space that Publix Super Markets Inc. will vacate at the end of the year.

Jacksonville-based Winn-Dixie informed officials with the city Office of Economic Development that the grocery chain plans to renovate and lease the 28,120-square-foot store at 5210 Norwood Ave. by the end of the first quarter 2020.

Mayor Curry says he backs JEA effort to explore a possible sale

Mayor Lenny Curry told City Council members at Monday’s JEA fact-finding workshop that he will oppose any effort to stop Jacksonville’s public utility from exploring a possible sale.

In 5 minutes of prepared remarks, Curry weighed in for the first time on JEA’s privatization process in front of Council, putting his support behind the utility's efforts to explore a sale.

Gallery Restaurant Group denies allegations

The partners in Gallery Restaurant Group that were sued by other partners claiming the defendants withheld financial records from the plaintiffs have filed a response to the lawsuit denying the allegations.

The complaint filed Oct. 16 in Circuit Court in Duval County by John Shockey and Allison Shockey alleged that their partners, Shawn Lednick and John Valentino, have failed to provide financial reports that are to be used to calculate franchise fees related to Lednick and Valentino opening locations of Burrito Gallery restaurants.
