DIA committee recommends Spandrel for The Ford on Bay

A Downtown Investment Authority board committee unanimously recommended a $136 million bid by New York-based Spandrel Development Partners LLC to redevelop the former Duval County Courthouse and City Hall site Downtown.

The committee vote Feb. 11 advances the proposal for the city-owned property branded The Ford on Bay to the full DIA board.

Beach Boulevard Kmart to become drive-thru self-storage facility

Partners affiliated with Florida-based self-storage construction company Rapid Building Solutions LLC bought the closed Kmart store along Beach Boulevard to introduce a drive-thru experience.

Wayne Brodrick, vice president of sales and operations for Rapid Building Solutions, said Feb. 7 his group estimates a $7 million investment in the purchase and renovation of the property at 5751 Beach Blvd.

Save A Lot closes three Northeast Florida stores, a fourth expected

Another grocery retailer, Save A Lot, is closing some area stores.

The discount grocery chain closed at least three stores in Northeast Florida since December.

Those are in Southgate Plaza and the Edgewood Avenue Shopping Center in Jacksonville and at Tuesday Morning Plaza in Orange Park.

Developers pitch visions for The Ford on Bay site Downtown

Two companies vying to develop the former Duval County Courthouse and City Hall site, now branded The Ford on Bay, delivered their public pitches Feb. 4.

New York-based Spandrel Development Partners LLC proposes a $136 million, 550-unit multifamily development in two phases that include a grocery store and retail space of 50,000 to 74,000 square feet.

Construction staging set at St. Johns Town Center

Simon Property Group is staging construction at the site of the proposed fourth phase of St. Johns Town Center.

Equipment is in place and part of the parking lot is fenced and out of service at the southeast corner of the property at southeast Butler Boulevard and Interstate 295.
